What This Cartridge Does
The 2″ x 20″ sediment filter removes particles down to 5 microns from your water supply – that covers sand, rust flakes, silt, dirt, and general turbidity. Five microns is fine enough to catch particles the eye can barely see, but coarse enough to maintain strong flow rates over a long service interval.
Size and Fit
This is a large-format cartridge. The 2″ x 20″ dimension fits commercial big-blue housings and high-flow whole-house filter systems – not the standard 10″ under-sink housings. Check your housing dimensions before ordering. Flow capacity is substantially higher than a 10″ cartridge, which is why this size appears in commercial water treatment lines and industrial pre-filtration racks.
Where It Goes in a System
Run this cartridge as your first stage – before carbon filters, before RO membranes, before any other treatment equipment. Sediment is the primary cause of premature carbon block fouling and RO membrane failure. A properly sized sediment pre-filter at the system inlet protects everything downstream and extends the life of more expensive components.
Replacement
- Replace every 3-6 months under normal conditions
- Replace sooner when feed water turbidity is high (well water, post-storm municipal supply)
- A visible pressure drop across the housing is a reliable indicator the cartridge is loaded
- No tools needed – standard sump wrench or hand-tighten depending on housing type
