Choosing between residential and commercial RO systems
Residential and commercial RO systems differ mainly in output capacity and duty cycle. Residential systems are compact, produce 50-150 gallons per day (GPD), and serve point-of-use drinking water applications, typically an under-sink unit feeding one faucet. Commercial systems produce 100-6,000 GPD, use industrial-grade components built for continuous operation, and can supply water for multiple simultaneous uses.
Sizing the right system starts with your peak daily consumption: multiply hourly usage by operating hours, then add a 25% buffer for adequate storage and recovery. As a rule of thumb, most households need a 50-100 GPD system, while small businesses typically need 300-800 GPD.
Installation requirements differ too. Residential under-sink units are designed for DIY installation using standard plumbing connections. Commercial and industrial systems require a plumber for feed water and drain line connections -- AMPAC provides detailed installation guides and technical support for every system we sell.
