AMPAC’s factory is in Woods Cross, which is in Davis County. Bountiful, Farmington, Layton and the rest of the county are close enough to reach the same day. Most of the county’s wholesale water comes from Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, and that water is very hard. Here is what the district and Bountiful report, and how to match equipment to it.
What is in Davis County tap water?
| Provider | Hardness (grains/gal) | Hardness (mg/L) | TDS (mg/L) | Report |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weber Basin WCD (Davis and Weber counties) | 10 - 18 | 171 - 308 | 214 north, 377 central, 738 south | 2025 |
| Bountiful City | not published | not published | 108 - 1,172 | 2025 |
Weber Basin’s hardness range of 10 to 18 grains puts Davis County squarely in the “very hard” band. The three TDS figures show how the county splits: the north system averages 214 mg/L, the central 377 and the south system 738, which is above the EPA’s 500 mg/L secondary guideline for taste and spotting. Weber Basin’s 2025 report also lists arsenic under 1.3 ppb at the highest reading (EPA limit 10 ppb) and nitrate at 3.48 ppm (EPA limit 10 ppm), so the issue here is quality, not safety.
Bountiful publishes TDS but no hardness. Its range, 108 to 1,172 mg/L, is wide enough that two taps in the same city can differ a lot. Layton’s report does not give a usable hardness or TDS figure, so check with the city or test the tap.
These are system-wide figures from each utility’s own annual water quality report. A specific street can differ from the average, so test your tap before you size anything. Hardness is unregulated, so a utility that does not publish a number is not breaking a rule. 1 grain per gallon is 17.1 mg/L.
What this means for your equipment
- Hardness of 10 to 18 grains: a whole-building softener stops scale on fixtures, water heaters and dishwashers. RO vs water softener lays out the difference.
- TDS above 500 mg/L, mostly in the south system: reverse osmosis at the tap fixes taste and spotting. See residential RO systems.
- Businesses: commercial RO systems for restaurants, clinics, car washes and labs. Pretreatment goes in ahead of the membrane because the feed is hard.
- Parts and consumables: membrane elements, UV lamps and sleeves and RO parts are available for pickup in Woods Cross.
Installation and service for Davis County
AMPAC builds its reverse osmosis systems at 2262 S 1200 W, Suite #103, Woods Cross, UT 84087, in the same county, usually a short drive. AMPAC installs and services systems on site anywhere in Utah. The people who assemble a system are the ones you talk to about it. Bountiful and Farmington are a few miles away, and Layton is a bit farther north. For parts and equipment you would rather collect, pick them up at the Woods Cross facility. Everything else ships.
- Call (385) 530-1026 to arrange an installation, a service visit or a pickup time
- Request a quote and include your address, daily water use and, if you have one, a recent water test
- Size a system first with the RO system calculators
Frequently asked questions
Is Davis County water hard?
Yes. Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, which supplies water across Davis and Weber counties, reports 10 to 18 grains per gallon (171 to 308 mg/L). The USGS calls anything above 180 mg/L very hard.
Why is Davis County TDS higher in the south?
Weber Basin reports 214 mg/L for its north system, 377 for the central and 738 for the south. The report does not explain the difference. In the south system the average sits above the EPA’s 500 mg/L guideline, which is where taste and spotting become noticeable.
What is Bountiful’s water hardness?
Bountiful’s 2025 report does not publish a hardness figure. It lists TDS from 108 to 1,172 mg/L. A $20 test kit or a call to the city is the fastest way to get a number for your address.
Can I pick up parts in Woods Cross?
Yes. Membranes, UV lamps and RO parts can be collected at 2262 S 1200 W, Suite #103, Woods Cross. Call (385) 530-1026 first so the part is ready.
