The Pura UV water filter kills bacteria, viruses, and cysts in your water supply without adding chemicals, changing taste, or altering water chemistry. UV-C light at 254 nanometers disrupts pathogen DNA and prevents reproduction. Pathogens cannot adapt to UV the way they can build resistance to chlorine or other chemical disinfectants.
The Pura UVB-2 EPCB-SD installs inline on the output line of an existing filtration system – most commonly as the final stage after a reverse osmosis unit or carbon filter. It needs a 120V power connection and standard 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch push-fit line connections. Installation takes about 30 minutes.
What UV disinfection kills
The UVB-2 inactivates E. coli, Giardia lamblia, Cryptosporidium parvum, Legionella, Salmonella, and most common waterborne viruses. NSF Standard 55 Class B certification confirms a minimum UV dose of 16 mJ/cm2 – the threshold for effective disinfection in treated municipal water supplies.
UV treats biology, not chemistry. It does not remove lead, arsenic, nitrates, or fluoride – those require an RO membrane upstream. For well water with both biological and chemical contamination, run the UV as the final stage after RO.
Maintenance
Replace the UV lamp annually. Output degrades over time even when the lamp stays lit, and a dim lamp may look functional while delivering below the rated disinfection dose. Clean the quartz sleeve annually as well – deposits from iron, manganese, or hardness above 7 gpg reduce UV transmission. AMPAC stocks replacement lamps for all current Pura UV units.
If your source water has iron or hardness, treat those before the UV unit. Deposits on the quartz sleeve are the most common cause of premature performance loss.
Compatibility
Works with any pressurized line between 20 and 80 PSI, up to 125°F. Pairs directly with AMPAC residential RO systems, commercial RO systems, and standalone carbon filter setups.
